I-Make-Better-Matcha-Latte Workshop
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to create delicious, café-quality matcha lattes from scratch, while uncovering what might have been going wrong in your home attempts. Whether you’re a seasoned matcha lover or just beginning your journey, this class will give you the confidence and skills to elevate your matcha game.
We will start with a top grade matcha shot to get a better understanding of what "true" ceremonial grade matcha is all about (that's not for lattes), then covering the essentials of how to choose the best matcha powder specifically for lattes, and how to properly store your matcha to preserve its vibrant color and delicate flavor after opening.
Next, we’ll dive into making the hot matcha latte — surprisingly the most challenging of the two. Kimmy will demonstrate how to prepare your matcha "espresso" base, and then guide you through milk steaming techniques. You’ll also get a comparison of different milk steaming tools/machines (we've tried them all), along with recommendations on the best options for home use, so you can recreate that creamy café texture in your own kitchen.
While you're enjoying the hot matcha latte, we will proceed to cover some basic matcha 101 knowledge, such as how matcha is made, the differences between green tea powder and matcha (not the same), and the grading system for matcha.
From there, we’ll move on to the iced matcha latte, which requires an entirely different approach. You’ll learn how to achieve that beautiful layered look and balanced taste, and practice tips and tricks to avoid common pitfalls like clumping or watered-down flavors.
At the end of the workshop, you’ll take home a beautifully designed recipe card so you can keep practicing your new skills at home.
Come join us for a cozy, informative afternoon and leave with the knowledge (and confidence) to make matcha lattes just like it's from your favorite matcha café - Whisk.
