No Radiation Risk Here: Get To Know Your Matcha

With so many different matcha products available in todays marketplace, its more important than ever to be an informed consumer: especially where quality and health are concerned.

There is always buzz within the tea drinking world regarding the effects of radiation on Japanese tea. Considering a large part of Japan's agricultural region was affected by the fallout of the Fukushima Daiichi Power Plant as a result of the Tohoku earthquake almost six years ago - its understandable.

Rest assured though: the main tea producing region where our Whisk Matcha is grown (Uji Kyoto) was never contaminated by radioactive isotopes. Farmers have taken the utmost precautions when harvesting and testing for trace/unsafe levels of radiation (beyond what is normal considering radiation is everywhere... even in the bananas you consume).

Learn more about our commitment to only using 100% radiation-free, matcha here and read about research we've done to ensure all of our Whisk Premium Matcha products are safe for consumption.

As well, you might want to consider signing up for our upcoming Matcha 101 Seminar on January 18th at the L'Atelier in Vancouver where you can meet Kimmy Xiao and ask her all about this and many other tea-related topics to live your best #MatchaLife.

Health Benefits of Matcha

It’s no secret at Whisk Premium Matcha that we’re fans of all-things Matcha. But matcha does a body good in more ways than one! Here are a few additional reasons to learn to love matcha:

It powers the brain

Matcha consumption can increase focus and concentration thanks to something called L-Theanine found in green tea.

It helps weight maintenance and loss

Matcha has been shown to help burn calories up to four times faster than normal – without negative side effects, managing weight thanks to epigallocatechin gallate (EGCg) levels that increases the rate by which stored fat is burned and limits the creation of new fat cells.

It is loaded with antioxidants

Matcha is loaded with antioxidants (more than regular green tea) with some research showing that the sort of antioxidants (polyphenols) found in matcha may help fight certain types of cancer.

It helps with skin care

These same antioxidants (as found in green tea) also help increase skin health by slowing signs of skin aging and reducing overall inflammation – thanks to EGCg.

It assists with heart health

Studies have also shown that the regular consumption of matcha and green teas have also helped lower blood pressure and LDL cholesterol – thanks to the level of catechins found. This translates to a decrease in risk of stroke and other diseases of the heart.

It helps keep you healthy

Matcha boosts the body’s immune system and contains substantial amounts of Vitamins A and C, Potassium, Iron, Calcium and Protein – something you definitely want to factor in as we swing into cold and flu season!
