#TGIF Whisk Matcha Martini

It's been a long week!  Whether you're the work-hard, play-hard type or simply want to treat yourself to a relaxing start to the weekend - one thing is certain: nothings quite like mixing up a great tasting cocktail to wind things down. 

That's why we crafted the perfect recipe for our very own refreshing matcha martini! It strikes a fine balance between tangy, smooth and sweet - you're taste buds will love it.  With our premium Whisk Matcha added, you're body will love it too!

Ingredients

1/2 tsp Whisk Organic Matcha Everyday Grade

1 tsp Simple Syrup

1 oz vodka (we used Grey Goose for this recipe)

1/2 cup water

a few drops of fresh lemon juice

Method

Rim a martini glass with sugar and set aside.  In a shaker, build all ingredients on ice.  Shake vigorously, strain and pour. Garnish with a lemon twist and enjoy!

Beat #BlueMonday With A Vibrant Cup Of Green (Matcha!)

Around the world, today officially marks Blue Monday, the third Monday of January when weather is often at its peak of bleak, the post holiday hype has cooled off and those dreaded bills begin to roll in wreaking havoc on new found (New Year) optimism. 

  

This year, beat the #MondayBlues with these simple tips and savour the day with a cup of vibrant green matcha instead!

1. Try and focus on the positive (little) things in your life instead of letting yourself get overwhelmed.  Break things down into smaller lists and map out a plan of action. 

2. Use Blue Monday as a day to make changes rather than let it be a hinderance to moving forward with goals. If you've delayed getting back into a bit of an exercise routine, squeeze something in for yourself, make an attempt to quit a bad habit, write a thoughtful card to a loved one or friend, read a few pages from a book. 

3. Eat healthy and nutritious food.  If you're doing your weekly shop - make a concerted effort to by whole (non processed) foods and plan a few meals for the week ahead to help get you in a positive mindset. 4. Work up a sweat! Getting your heart rate pumping is a great way to feel positive energy thanks to all those endorphins created.  Though the days may be colder, more dull and shorter - you can still enjoy a brisk 15-20 minute walk or run outside or on a treadmill. 

5. Drink matcha tea! Aside from the fact that matcha tea is widely known to benefit cholesterol levels and metabolism, it also contains thiamine: a type of amino acid and powerful mood-booster.  Thiamine helps increase levels of dopamine, serotonin, and other important chemicals related to maintaining a healthy mood and abating stress and anxiety. 1. Describe what you do in less than 140 characters. Go.
I’m the founder of Whisk Premium Matcha – an artisanal and premium organic Japanese matcha distributor based in B.C., as well as a healthy lifestyle purveyor.

2. What was the inspiration for your career route?
I’ve always enjoyed helping people and have derived a great sense of satisfaction from looking after others… and that’s led me from a career in hospitality to one geared toward health and wellbeing. I love educating people about this healthy alternative to their everyday (coffee) routine.

3. What is the most memorable milestone in your career so far?
Starting my own business.

4. Where do you see yourself in 5 years, 10 years, 20 years?
I want to continually grow my business, learn and create a matcha-movement. Spending time with my young family is also incredibly important.

5. Do you have any advice for other young professionals?
Get out of your comfort zone and explore your potential.

6. Do you support any charities? If so, which one(s) and why is it (or they) important to you?
I support a variety of animal welfare charities.

7. What is one major challenge that you’ve had to overcome in your career? How did you overcome it?
Communication. Having been born in China – a country where individual expression is not necessarily encouraged –I was always fearful of expressing my opinion. Moving to Canada at age 19, the language barrier added to the communication challenge – but thankfully, my employers helped encourage me to contribute my ideas no matter what. As of today, I’m still learning the art of communication. I think it’s a lifelong project.

8. What does the word notable mean to you?
Being inspirational.

1. Where is your favourite place to wine/dine in your city and why?
ARC restaurant at Fairmont Waterfront Hotel; their service is top-notch. I’m also a sushi junkie; Manzo and Ebisu are other go-to places.

2. What’s the most played song on your phone?
“Try Everything” by Shakira

3. Who’s one person you think everyone should be following on social media?
@healthyeating_jo, an Australia health/wellness blogger.

4. What’s your favourite country to visit and why? And what’s the next one you plan on travelling to?
Given that I was born and raised in Beijing, I have to say China. I’d love to visit Iceland next. It seems so otherworldly and mysterious to me.

5. What gives you the greatest FOMO?
As a young mother, I’d say my son’s developmental milestones.

6. What’s your guiltiest pleasure?
Grilled cheese, or actually anything loaded with cheese.

7. What’s something you wish you didn’t spend so much money on? What’s something you wish you spent more on?
Luxury purses. When I didn’t have kids, I spent lots of money on fancy things that I didn’t even need. Now my lifestyle has changed and I wish I could’ve used that money for growing my business and for my kids’ education.

8. And finally, what does success look like to you? Work, play, or otherwise…
Freedom: but not just financial freedom, more a mental sense of freedom where I can set goals and pursue my dream without regrets.

Whisk Matcha Official Launch Party @ Yaletown, Vancouver

To celebrate the official launch of Whisk Premium Matcha, we hosted a private launch party at a lounge room in Yaletown, Vancouver, and had 40 amazing friends and customers witnessed this special celebration. 

We had 3 matcha stations setup: Hot Organic Matcha, Cold Organic Matcha, and Pinnacle Gold Ceremonial Matcha. At the organic matcha tables, matcha lovers got a chance to explore different ways of making a perfect cup of matcha to their liking. They had the choice of adding organic honey, organic raw sugar, organic soy milk, organic almond milk, or half & half into their matcha. Usually we will start with a question like: how would you enjoy your coffee or other types of tea such as Orange Pekoe? Go with the same route to acquire the taste of matcha.

Our ceremonial matcha table was a hit with people attempting their first matcha-whisking experience. It's not a quick fix to your caffeine craving; whisking matcha is a state of art, a meditation, and a getaway from daily stress and chaos. Our precious Pinnacle Gold matcha is perfect for this ritual - it's the best of the best artisanal matcha you could ever find.

Adding more fun to the party, attendees would need to answer some matcha-related trivia questions. Our young volunteers were serious about their job! You could't cheat and you'd have to give out the best answer you could ever think of.

Here comes the cake cutting. We ordered this beautiful matcha cake from a local patisserie chef by using our own organic Everyday grade. It's garnished with edible flowers and fresh assorted berries.

Last but not the least, we had a draw of our grand prize winner, and the lucky winner got an artisanal Pinnacle Gold matcha with a handcrafted black bamboo scoop.
